map notes
The first level of my unofficial Dustforce world, the School. The four official worlds have a similar naming scheme and have the normal, silver, and gold levels of the such, so I'll abide by that pattern. "Hallways" would most likely be the introductory stage of the School. Though it's a bit hard it is still pretty easy. SS rank would be a little bit challenging for a newer player but I would like to see how some of the pros may find ways to speed run this level. There are a fair share of secrets as well, they aren't too well hidden as long as you an exploring kinda guy. I'll be uploading and making more School levels soon.
Edit: I had to redo some stuff. I also changed a part up a little bit for it almost qualified this level as a silver key rank when it's supposed to actually be easier.

Do you know about slope-dashing? None of the slopes rely on you slope-dashing, in fact; the opposite. It makes this map not very fun to run.

Well this map did feel pretty unfinished and was missing something. I've heard of slope dashing yet am still not completely familiar with what it means. If I remember right it is when you dash near the end of a slope to conserve your momentum? This is also one of my first maps so it's bound to have mistakes as well. How do you think I should change it to make it more fun and/or fluent to run?

Change the dust locations, don't put ramps so close to eachother etc. Ask people to playtest it if you need help.

Go learn you some slope dashin'

Could also use a little less dust in general.  Prevents people from speeding up the run by simply flying past some platforms, or jumping earlier, etc.

Direly ill at the moment, so I'll get around to SSing your harder maps later D:

Ah right, I should have been more spacious when it came to the slope section before the outdoor area. I honestly don't have too many friends into Dustforce, none the less any one that good at it to help me test levels. I have to rely on my own skill, which isn't all too good. I am above newbie but no where near pro. My main problem is that, when making a level, it's difficult to make it fun for all players. They practically became only really fun for me or players that play alike me. I just hope future levels of mine will be better.

Ah I see now what you mean by slope dashing. I admit I could not finish your level, Varsis, for I seem to not be able to perform slope dashing well enough! That would present a problem. I can't add in slope dashing if I can't do it right.

Well, it's not mine, it's Towelie's.  I just happen to love it dearly.

The way it works is that you hold down and forward as you hit the ramp, and then hit dash when you're about to clear the other (upward) side of the ramp and switch from down-forward to just forward.  I think.  Happens too fast for me to be positive what I'm doing.

Ah right sorry for the mix up. Besides me not being able to finish it I already loved the style it was going for!

To be honest, slope dashing seems to be one thing I've never enjoyed. I know a lot of the pros have their fun with it but I've never even really liked it so my personal preference may conflict how I make levels. I'd prefer areas that slope dashing isn't mandatory but you may do it if you want to get a good run or something. Some levels I've played have had slope dashing needed and my newbie skills can't comply easily so I usually fail at that part. I know I can do it but it's a 50/50 chance I do it right sometimes. I also didn't notice until now that Denferok, the one who commented earlier on here, is actually the guy I saw do some great speed runs on youtube of custom maps! Though I doubt my maps are worth that but it's cool to be acknowledged by a pro.

Thanks! Saw your replay and I can tell you have the path I usually went for. Only problem was keeping your speed up on those curved ramps at the end. Though they are hard to use why change them now? I also gave your map a try and really enjoyed the scenery and style to it. Though I was a little confused which directions to go to complete the level. That spike jump really got me a lot too, heh. Another problem I had was when trash was hidden behind scenery. It makes for a cool effect but sometimes I might miss a bit of trash and not see it. Nice level overall, though!

Yeah, I noticed how easy it was to get out of the level and explore so I just went with it! The odd things you saw, besides the cat thing (It's almost become a thing I put in every level of mine now.), are actually pixel art of video game characters of mine. I make a few games here and there but it's mainly characters I make so many of! Even got a tumblr showcasing a few. Enough self advertisement, but great that you found the secrets :3
