Here aboard the B.A.S.S. (Big Ass Space Station), we conduct all manner of financially and technologically unfeasible scientific experiments. Our power draw is too high for the meager load that our solar arrays can support, leading to lots of waiting and not-doing-of-science. I need to do science. I hate waiting.
Nick suggested geothermal power for its efficiency and cheapness. I pointed out that geothermal power doesn't really work miles above the surface of Earth, idiot. So Steve from I.T. created the Fire Crystals, as an autonomous source of endless lava. Unfortunately he also gave them sentinence and an all-consuming hatred for all living things. DAMNIT STEVE! This is the third time!
The lab is overrun by the Fire Crystals and is melting from the inside out. After the station's hull is compromised, its orbit will decay until it crash lands on Earth. Once that happens, the amount of Oxygen in the atmosphere will easily let them destroy the entire planet. In order to save the station and prevent the apocalypse we'd need to destroy all the Fire Crystals, as well as their source colony: The Molten Heart. But to do that we'd need some kind of weapon immune to intense heat and fire... like a wooden broom or something.
