map notes
<JerseyMilker> Also, carry on my Wayward son.  There'll be peace when you are done.
<Wayward> :)

There will be peace...  For a change of pace, I decided to make the background and backdrops first.  Then I tried to design level art that would match it but also keep it in focus.  This is not my usual process but it is a usual layout from me: lots of slopeboosting and very much another downhill.  I put some other obstacles in to break it up, but there you have it.  This map was a lot of fun to finish up on stream; thanks to everyone who watched.

Beautiful map!
I really love the art, the fog trigger and the atmosphere. Amazing mix of forest, city and lab themes.

Yeah I made a poor mix of compromises with the darkness.  Initially the foreground was even darker to better contrast the props and bg tiles, but I didn't want to lighten them up anymore.  I scaled back the darkness and blend on layer 19 and 20 to try and make the dust easier to see on the rocks.  Ultimately it doesn't bother me because I use the spritemod that outlines all entities: including dust and dustblocks.  I highly recommend that as it substantially improved the game for me.
