map notes
My map submission for the second Mapmaking Competition!
For the gap in the middle, you have to heavy the first prism, dash, backwards swipe, and jump. You'll cross the gap with ease~

As always, feedback is appreciated :) There are easter eggs in the background too! Try to find them all :D

It can be bypassed XD

If you want, you can farm an area attack :D
You don't actually need the backwards swipe, although you do need it for fastest time.

Dustkid / Dustworth can cheese it, but as Kuro said, nobody wants to be a poopyfart~

they're actually not that hard! here's my best effort at explaining how to do them.

first, dash while holding forward. press backward to heavy but immediately after heavying switch back to forward to keep your momentum. that's all there is to it. the less time you hold back, the more of your momentum you will keep.

I just dash jumped. That's easier for me. xD

If you want, you can practice them using Kuro's map here:

There's also Towelie's Skills map.
I also forgot to mention that I really like this map. It reminds me of the ground in Sonic. xD

Yeah, Skills is a really good map! Big props to Towelie, he did an amazing job with making it

wau is prettty~

seriously tho; the palette is awesome. i love it when maps have just the right partial blend on a layer to allow different color tiles.

I had a hard time telling what was a dustblock and where the dust was.

truth be told i did too, but that was only the first time through.

I'm glad you liked it, Vox~

Shury, I'm sowwy :( Making the dust visible with the palette was really tough, I did as good of a job as I could...

It shouldn't be too hard to get a full SS though, I made it so that all the dust is in reasonably obvious positions.

your eyes adjust to it after the first run or two

Blam! Haha now is the waiting game for Seight to destroy my time. I really like this level for two reasons, the background looks really intricate (the more complicated the better) and the level focuses on boosting my favorite part about Dustforce :D Nice!

I'm glad you like it!
The background was a real pain to make, because there was such a large area to cover. Good fun though! Did you find the easter egg? :P

And it's great that you enjoyed playing the level too! I'm glad people are enjoying my level :D

Jesus Christ Towelie how long did it take you to get that run? That was ridiculous.

Are you kidding me, its faster just to super at the end? Hahaha fml.

OK I love your maps. My only criticism on this one is that you can't do any% because of the small prisms outside the tunnel at the end.  I don't think they're even necessary, really. In a lot of other maps you can grab enough dust to super by the end or you don't need the super, but in this one you basically have to s-complete.

5/5 otherwise, just something to think about!

The any% is very possible!
For starters, at the end of the map, if you do the intended SS you'll have exactly 100 dust. Therefore, you can miss exactly 12 dust and still get an equally fast ending.
Also, there are methods you can use to gather up 20-30 dust at the very end, in an extremely short period of time. My goal was for the player to have the area attack for the SS at the end, but for you to build it up at the end of any%.

Think of Tera Difficult's ending, it sort-of has the same thing.

Really cool map. Love the flow of it once you learn how to do the gap (though I didn't use the backwards swipe trick)

How quickly can you get through that gap? The fastest way I can pass it is through a backwards swipe, but I'm not totally sure (as you said, there are other methods)

26 comments within 7 hours, easy to tell whose maps it is.

Neat level! If there's one caveat here, it's probably that backward swipe - the rest of the level is very graciously easy, and then the double big prism is a way harder jump than anything else; feels kind of out of place, particularly as you can't really see you shouldn't be hitting them both at the same time when you jump towards them. Other than that, good stuff.

man this level is so addicting!
@tinker: try a quick doublejump, hit the first hexagon, dash and hit the 2nd one, you should land on the other side without any problems ;-)
