map notes
For my second level, I tried to do something a little different then what I'm used to from the game, trying to toy with what could be done with blocks in that off diagonal method.  Ended up going with a backup shift inspired spiral level, hopefully it's enjoyable.  There is no block of shame...

Or its alternative name "Backup Shift, Towelie Edition".

Should add, this is pretty fun, but it does force you to learn exactly how your character reacts to just 22.5 degree angles, which can be tricky (especially near spikes). I had no problems with the visibility at all. I really liked the big drop you see coming throughout the level.

No offense intended but i feel like everything was very awkward, unclear and spikes were hard to see as of the background. (only my opinion and i'm sure others thought much differently)

Hmm, I had gone with higher contrast to have decent foreground background separation, because darker backgrounds were pretty bad, but I guess that lowers the already kind of low wire to black ground contrast.  I guess stock maps did other stuff to point out the spikes on lab maps.

As far as awkward, I'd agree to some degree.  I put myself under odd constraints, for science.   I don't really regret that.

Cool idea, but the implementation is just way too finicky in some parts.

It's surprisingly hard to come out with any take home at all from any of this outside of editor experience, because anything beyond my own opinions come out extraordinarily vague...  science sucks.

People aren't used to these slopes, so they get reckt, so they complain about it. Way of the world man.

Well, like there are certainly valid complaints I could find, and I don't mind that the map is awkward or not good or whatever, it's my second map, and I tried to do things differently then what is normal.  I'm just having trouble knowing what issues people had, or what if anything were good solutions for them.

The layout is fine, just stuff like the last set of prisms has be to -perfect- timing to get them in one heavy, a few of the 30 degree slope boosts require exact height to get the boost things like that make it really frustrating to get a good run. My only complaint tbh.
