The more twirlies you can do the better your Score ranking. I'm not sure anyone is quite up to the challenge of SSing this yet. You need to twirly at least once to get on leaderboards.
If you're part way through the climb and give up make sure to fall down against the wall so that you'll get credit for any totem kills, otherwise with the way checkpoints work they'll respawn and you'll likely get D completion.
